III hall

The third hall is dedicated to the creative activity of Rostropovich abroad. Here in detail is represented his conductor and performer activity. In the exposition there are demonstrated his numerous rewards, and also topical carpet dedicated to the outstanding musician, made by the carpet artist T. Bashirov. In the beginning of the 70’s M. Rostropovich encountered the manifestation of the flagrant injustice, with which he has been continually fighting for his entire life. This was connected with his support to Alexander Solzhenitsyn’s activity, who incessantly underwent oppressions in the USSR for his fundamental civic stand. M. Rostropovich, which rendered a moral support to A. Solzhenitsyn, was exiled from the USSR. After some difficulties during the first years of immigration, M. Rostropovich begins the active creative activity. For 17 years he was a conductor of the Washington Symphonic Orchestra and attained a deserved glory. In the exposition there are widely represented the materials about the conductor activity of the musician abroad, the poster of his concert in 1975 with the American Symphonic Orchestra with the participation of G. Vishnevskaya. In the hall it is also possible to get acquainted with the photographs of M. Rostropovich with prominent foreign politicians and figures of culture: the Pope, the Queen of Great Britain, Dmitriy Shostakovich, Rodion Shchedrin, Yuri Bashmet, Seiji Ozava, French actor and mime Marseille Marso, etc. In the period of his foreign activity as the outstanding conductor and cellist, M. Rostropovich was rewarded with a large number of rewards, orders and medals. In the exposition are presented some of them: the Antonioni reward to and his autograph, the “Grand Cavalier” order of Italy, the “Grand Officier” order of France, and the “Isabella Catolika” order of Spain, the “Comandor” order of Monaco, and also the Presidential Medal of Freedom (USA), “French crown” and other rewards.
