Exposition

The home — museum of L. and M. Rostropovich was established in 1998 in the apartment, in which the family lived in the period of their stay in Baku from 1925 to 1931. The street, where the museum is located, now bears the name of father and son Rostropovich. On March 4, 2002, the inauguration of the exposition took place. At present, there are more than 2000 exhibits in the fixed capital of the home — museum. The museum consists of 4 halls and an anteroom. The part of the anteroom and the first room are of memorial nature. All halls of the museum are dedicated to different stages of life and creative activity of M. Rostropovich. The ancestors of Rostropoviches used to live in the territory of Poland and Lithuania and bear the name of Rostropovichyus. Their kin from the ancient times was noted by “Bogoria” coat of arms and had a motto of “Faith, Honor, Debt”. In the first hall the genealogical tree of Rostropoviches is demonstrated.
