In 1998,
the President of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev issued a decree
about creation of the memorial museum of Rostropoviches
in Baku. The museum is located in the house where
the family of Rostropoviches lived in 1925—1931.
The street, on which the home-museum is located, bears
the name of Leopold and Mstislav Rostropovich. On March
4, 2002, the inauguration of the home-museum’s exposition
took place.

“Shostakovich Festival”
On February 20—26, 2006, in Baku under the management of the world famous maestro M. L. Rostropovich was held the “Shostakovich Festival” dedicated to the 100-year anniversary of the brilliant composer D. Shostakovich. In this connection, M. Rostropovich participated at the arrangements dedicated to the anniversary, which were held in the home-museum of L. and M. Rostropovich. Maestro Rostropovich and guests became acquainted with the exhibition comprised of the home-museum’s exhibits. At the exhibition the materials, which reflect the friendly and creative connections of D. Shostakovich with M. Rostropovich and G. Vishnevskaya, were demonstrated. During his entire creative way M. Rostropovich has been propagandizing D. Shostakovich’s music as a conductor and a performer and has conducted the “Shostakovich Festival” in different countries. This year the permanent arrangements dedicated to D. Shostakovich’s anniversary are planned in the museum. |
